One of the loveliest things to see is a child’s face light up with a smile, but what if your child is embarrassed to smile because of their teeth? And what if there is something that you could do to fix it? Would you?

At L&L Orthodontics, we’re here to work with you to create a smile for your child they’ll wear with confidence for a lifetime.

Invisalign® First for children

As part of our Invisalign® treatment offering here at L&L Orthodontics, we can treat our younger patients using Invisalign First aligners. These aligners work just the same as the aligners worn by teens and adults – they’re custom made to your child’s teeth and jaws to ensure a comfortable fit and they’re removable, so your child can take them out at meal times and when brushing their teeth.

But why would your child need orthodontic treatment at such an early age you ask?

The Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO) recommends children have an early orthodontic consultation by the age of 7 – and here in the clinic we agree. At this time in a child’s life, they will usually have all their adult teeth, but there is still plenty of time for us to take a proactive approach to ensure they have straight healthy teeth for life.

Does your child need orthodontic treatment?

There are several things you can do to determine whether your child could benefit from orthodontic treatment:

  1. Regular trips to the dentist – this will help to identify any problems that may be developing as the adult teeth erupt.
  2. Eating habits – look to see how your child chews their food and if they’re having difficulty biting into or chewing and swallowing food. This may indicate an abnormal bite.
  3. Thumb sucking – if your child sucks his or her thumb this can push the teeth out and result in your child requiring orthodontic treatment.

Benefits of early orthodontic treatment

Some of the benefits of ensuring your child has an early orthodontic consultation with a specialist orthodontist is so we can:

  • Ensure there is space in the mouth for crowded or erupting teeth
  • Correct any facial alignment and jaw growth to achieve optimal symmetry
  • Correct protruding front teeth to reduce any risk of trauma
  • Create or preserve gaps for teeth that may be fighting for space
  • Protect existing teeth and help reduce the need for extraction in any subsequent treatment required
  • Reduce the amount of time your child may need to wear an orthodontic appliance in future

Benefits of Invisalign® First aligners

Invisalign® First aligners are a great introduction to orthodontic treatment. They’re comfortable to wear and effective at preparing the teeth for any treatment your child may require. What’s more, because the aligners are removable, it gives your child the freedom to enjoy being a child without orthodontic treatment impacting on their lifestyle.
